I just returned from a lovely dinner party at which I was introduced to Mr. John Adams, my favorite modern composer. At dinner I sat directly to Mr. Adams' right, and conversed with him on and off throughout the meal. After the party I was driven home by Mr. Adams himself and his wife Debby. I even gave him a copy of Instrumental, which he really seemed to appreciate.

Altogether, just an out and out thrill.

P.P.S. After making that last post I feel very satisfied with myself and my own wisdom. Vanity is my friend!

I haven't read anyones livejournals in a long time, and I haven't posted in even longer than that, and I don't plan on going back and reading all or even any of those that I missed. I'll make an exception if there's something in particular you think I should read and you point it out to me.

My stay in Santa Cruz is ending. I failed to get work, or even find any work interesting to me. My remaining possibilities are in Berkeley and San Francisco. So I am moving to Berkeley in a week. In a way I am coming full circle on two different cycles, perhaps even three. Too complicated for me to have the energy to discuss in type right now.

    I love you all.

P.S. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath, and accept that nearly everybody has a different attitude about sex. AND THAT THAT IS OKAY. It is difficult to be human together and agree to disagree, and find ways to agree even though we disagree, but we must.

    I love you all.

a friend of my mom from the FSM sent me this, with the best of intentions, I think:

A college student challenged a senior citizen, saying it was impossible for their generation to understand his.

"You grew up in a different world," the student said. "Today we have television, jet planes, space travel, nuclear energy, computers..."

Taking advantage of a pause in the student's litany, the geezer said, "You're right. We didn't have those things when we were young; so we invented them! What are you doing for the next generation?"

But that wasn't the point the student was making at all...

And also, the complainer is only a college student; the old fogey hadn't accomplished anything so great while still in college.

Understanding is a real issue...can't older folks actually address the issue of the generation gap?

And if we grew up in the world that their generation created and they don't understand us, then it seems to me that's their problem...no?

    Morvariana’s Timeless Library
          Transmutation
          Level: Wizard 9
          Components: V, S, M, XP
          Casting Time: 24 hours
Range: Anywhere within the area of effect
Area: One room at least 5 feet by 5 feet, with no open windows or doors,
up to 400 square feet/level, ceiling up to 10 feet high/3 levels
          Duration: Permanent
          Saving Throw: None
          Spell Resistance: No

The room in which the spell is cast becomes a preservation chamber for old books, scrolls, manuscripts, and documents of any kind. Decay caused by the passage of time, moisture, flame, extreme temperatures, and other forms of damage and degradation have no effect on such items within a Timeless Library as long as they are not removed from the room. The documents may be handled and viewed as normal within the chamber. Materials may be transported safely from one such chamber to another if the two rooms are directly adjacent to one another or through the use of Teleport or similar spells.
Morvariana’s Timeless Library fails if another spell is cast in the room during the casting. However once in place, only spells of 9th level or higher, such as Mordenkainen’s Disjunction, can disrupt or end the effect. This restriction also applies to spells already in effect in the room at the time of casting. In addition, the spell is ended if the room suffers enough damage to expose the whole interior to the elements. If a Timeless Library has a window or door that leads directly outside, keeping it open for 24 hours continuously is considered sufficient exposure.
Any creature attempting to remove documents from a Timeless Library, cause harm to documents within the room, cause damage to the room itself, willfully expose the interior to the elements, or use powerful magic or other means to disrupt the spell’s effect must make a Will save (DC 20 + CL at the time Morvariana’s Timeless Library was cast) to do so. A failed save means thieves stop at the door, Teleport spells fail (except for those whose destination is another Timeless Library), paper will not burn or tear, ink cannot be erased or smudged, the room cannot be breached, and even spells of 9th level or higher have no effect. A creature taking such actions is allowed a saving throw for each act of destruction until it fails. Further attempts by that creature that day automatically fail. The creature may attempt new saves 24 hours after the initial failure on the previous day.
If documents are successfully removed from a Timeless Library or if the spell is disrupted for even a moment, degradation of the documents caused by the passage of time takes effect immediately, such as what would have occurred had the materials never been preserved.
Material Component: A powder composed of diamond, emerald, ruby, and sapphire dust with a total value of 1 gp per square foot of the effected chamber.
XP Component: 1 XP per square foot of the effected chamber, minimum 100 XP.

    Life...
    I am working part time.
I am still losing weight, now down to 182 from 199 in June.
I am fighting with my mom, who does not approve of me.
I am looking for a music industry job in the bay area, I want to move out asap.
I am writing a piece for cello soloist and chamber ensemble, it is for a cellist I know at Harvard, she is 18 and is close, personal friends with John Adams.
I am coming to Santa Cruz tonight to plead Not Guilty to charges of Disorderly Conduct brought against me by the Santa Cruz District Attorney, the charges are not without merit, but the police did not arrest me, I was only detained. I believe there are motivations against me for my age or my family name at the heart of these charges.

I am feeling more adult, though not acting it yet. On the other hand my boss has been giving me a lot of responsibilities and I have been commended to the manager by some of the regular customers who have noticed my hard work. Mom, what's your problem?

To all of you, especially you and you and you, I am sorry I haven't called you yet, I will soon, I promise.

To those of you who still need albums, I have them, it may take time, I don't have a car or postage, but they will get to you, I swear.

Ana, you are almost definitely not reading this, but if you are, I will be sending you drafts soon. I'll need your feedback on style and notation in particular. I hope you like it.

I have lost 12 pounds since the end of school.

It's a combination of eating less and eating healthier.

I am going to start doing situps to try and flatten my tummy.

My only problem now is that I get free food and soda at work; I have to avoid that trap.
